Bracon, Jura

Bracon is a commune in the French department of Jura in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Bracon is located on 351 m above sea level. M., then south on Salins- les- Bains, about 21 km north of the city Champagnole (air line). The village is located in the Jura, in the Furieuse erosion valley at the mouth of Ruisseau de Gouaille, at the southern foot of Fort Belin.

The area of ​​6.29 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The main part of the area lies in the valley of the Furieuse, the river often forms the eastern boundary. The municipal area extends westward across the valley slope on a broad saddle, which leads on to the catchment area of the stream Vache, and also extends to the height of Fort Saint -André. History

Several findings indicate that the municipality of Bracon was inhabited in prehistoric times. Already in the 6th century, the castle of Bracon is mentioned in a document, which was destroyed by the Saracens in the 8th century and later rebuilt by Alberic of Narbonne.
