Branislaw Tarashkyevich

Branislau Adama Malevich Taraschkewitsch (White Russian Браніслаў Адамавіч Тарашкевіч, Russian Бронислав Адамович Тарашкевич, Polish Bronisław Adamowicz Taraszkiewicz ); * 8 Januarjul. / January 20 1892greg. in Mačiuliškės, today Lithuania; † November 29, 1938 in Minsk was the founder of Taraschkewiza, the classic Belarusian spelling.

Taraschkewitsch went from 1906-1911 in Vilnius to school, and then studied at the University of Saint Petersburg. There he began to develop a Belarusian grammar under the guidance of Alexei Shakhmatov. After the October Revolution, he participated in the publishing of the magazine Dsjanniza ( Lightbringer ). In 1922 he became a member of the Polish Sejm, where he was from 1922 to 1924 the chairman of the Belarusian Party. He was closely associated with the KPSB, the Communist Party of Western Belarus, which is why he was arrested in 1927 by the Polish authorities. In September 1933, he was released through a prisoner exchange for Frantishek Olechnowitsch. In 1938, he fell victim to the Great Purge.
