Branko Oblak ( born May 27, 1947 in Ljubljana ) is a former Yugoslav football player.

Career

Clubs

Emerged from the youth of NK Svoboda, Oblak changed than 18 years for first division club Olimpija Ljubljana, for which he 's 2-1 win at FK Partizan Belgrade not only gave his debut on 20 May 1966 but also scored both goals. After eight years, 181 games and 33 goals in 1973, he moved to Hajduk Split where he also gained his first success as a professional. In the first season he won with the team the double ( league and cup ) and was in the following season the championship win again. After two seasons, he moved to Germany in 1975 where he signed a two year contract with the Bundesliga club FC Schalke 04. His first of 49 league games for the " squire ", he played on 25 October 1975 ( 11th Round ) in the 3-2 away defeat against Bayer 05 Uerdingen. From the season 1977/78 he was part of the squad of FC Bayern Munich, for which he came 71 times for league use, scoring five goals and was in his final season with the team German masters. Oblak then returned to his homeland and played from 1980 to 1982 for NK Šibenik.

National

His international debut was on April 21, 1971 in Novi Sad in the 0-1 defeat against Romania held; his first international goal - scoring on 1 September 1971 in Budapest in the 1-2 defeat against Hungary. With the national team of his country, he participated in the 1974 World Cup in Germany and also at the European Championship 1976 in their own country. Oblak denied to 1977 50 caps and scored eight goals. After his playing career ended, he became a coach and was among other things to November 28, 2006 National coach of Slovenia.
