Brasilicereus markgrafii

Brasilicereus markgrafii is a species of the genus Brasilicereus in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet honors the German botanist Prof. Dr. Friedrich Markgraf.

Description

Brasilicereus markgrafii grows with unbranched grayish green shoots, which have a diameter of up to 2.5 centimeters and reach a height of up to 1.5 meters. There are usually 13 ribs available. The areolae are covered with gray wool. The single central spine, but sometimes up to four present, to 4 inches long. The 12 to 18 radial spines are irregularly from wrong and are 6-10 mm long.

The bell - to funnel- shaped flowers are bright grünweißlich. They grow to 6 inches long and have a diameter of 5 centimeters.

Systematics, distribution and hazard

Brasilicereus markgrafii is common in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais. For the first time the type was collected in 1938 by Margrave, Mello Barreto and Brade. The first description was in 1950 by Curt Backeberg and Otto full. A synonym is Cereus markgrafii ( Backeb. & Full) PJBraun.

Brasilicereus markgrafii was in the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN in 2002 as ' Endangered ( EN )', ie endangered classified. In 2013, the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, performed as endangered.
