Brøderbund

Brøderbund ( / bru ː dərbʌnd / ) is a US-based software company headquartered in Novato, California, which produces educational software and games. It was founded in 1980 by brothers Doug and Gary Carlston and was able to successfully enter the game Galactic Empire, which was written by Doug Carlston for the TRS- 80 in the market. Brøderbund grew and made a name for himself with learning games and game programs like Choplifter, The Mask of the Sun, Lode Runner, Castles of Dr. Creep, The Ancient Art of War, Karateka, Wings of Fury, Stunts, Prince of Persia, The Last Express and Myst (which for a long time was the best selling computer game, and was only released from The Sims ). Even a desktop publisher called The Print Shop has been published since 1984, the current version is from 2009.

1998 Brøderbund was acquired by the company The Learning Company for approximately 420 million U.S. dollars, 1999, the Mattel Group acquired the company group for the amount of 3.6 billion U.S. dollars.
