The Brechhorn seen from the south

The Brechhorn is a 2,032 m above sea level. A. high mountain in the Kitzbühel Alps, Austria. It lies between the valleys of Aschauer Ache and Ventspils.

Use of the mountain

The upper slopes of the mountain are agriculturally only moderately used as grazing land for sheep, goats, cows and horses. From the Brechhornhaus (1660 m) perform any other ski or material lifts or motorable roads on the mountain and allow a largely unspoilt views during the ascent.

Mountain climb

Starting points for climbing are mainly Aschau - a district of Kirchberg - and Westendorf. The trails are all marked and signposted in parts.

From the West Village one can reach through the Alpenrosenbahn on Nachtsöllberg to 1760 m high and can Talkaser ( east and west around the Fleiding ) reached from there quickly via two routes, the Brechhornhaus. This is due to Kreuzjoch between Gampenkogel and Brechhorn and is a good starting point for the further advancement.

In winter the mountain for ski touring and snowshoeing, especially popular. Here it is mostly of Kirchberg i.t. Aschau and climbed out. The road is cleared under normal winter conditions to the parking lot at the beginning of the toll road. This route runs along the eastern flank of the mountain on the Ebenaualm, Durachalm, Duracher Kogel (1773 m) and Breitlabalm. The summit can be reached in 2:50 hours.

Connection to Floch

From the top of the crushing horn is off in a southerly direction over a short, unmarked down and re- ascent of the summit of Floch ( 2057 m ) to reach. Also, the descent into Windautals is possible via this route, the path on the west flank of the mountain passes and through the cirque between Brechhorn and Floch. From the Brandeggalm a road leads to the mountain trail on Fleiding. The descent from Brechhorn in a southerly direction, however, is recommended only for experienced and sure- footed hikers.

Summit

The peak is fitted with a cross on the summit structure of wood and steel, on which a stamp and a register book can be found.

Northbound the top of the Hohe Salve, Nachtsöllberg, Fleiding and Gampenkogel form a beautiful view of the group of high Eintausendern. Towards the south you look into Windautal and the ridge line of the Kitzbühel Alps, including Kröndlhorn ( 2444 m) and Salzachgeier ( 2466 m) belong. Above all, however, is happening in the southeast of the refractive horn, the imposing and jagged edge of the Great Rettenstein ( 2366 m).
