Bredenbek

Bredenbek is a municipality in the district of Rendsburg -Eckernförde in Schleswig -Holstein. Brede Moor, Bredenbekermoor, Glindemann, Kronsburg and Rolfshörn lie in the municipality.

Geography and transport

The village is located about 15 kilometers east of Rendsburg and 18 kilometers west of Kiel at the Federal Highway 210 and the railroad Kiel, Rendsburg. The municipal area is dominated by agriculture and includes the south by the Westensee Nature Park and extends north almost to the North Sea-Baltic Canal.

History

The place Bredenbek was first mentioned in 1264 as " de Bradenbeke " in the city of the city of Kiel. The word Bredenbek consists of the Low German words " agree " for wide / flat and " bek " for Bach together. Bears the name of the village on the basis of the creek with the name " Bek ", the now partially cased, flows through the town. Pursuant to the first documentary mention in 1264 will be celebrated in 2014 with a village festival in late August 750 year celebration.

The municipality was formed in 1928 after the dissolution of the estate districts.

Bredenbek has a primary school in the village center, with around one hundred pupils and a kindergarten on Rolf horns way.

Sons and daughters of the town

The U.S. actor Eric Braeden was born in 1941 in Bredenbek and grew up there as Hans -Jörg Gudegast. He chose his stage name in reference to his home town. Since 1998 he is honorary citizen of the community. Braeden has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
