Breidbart-Index

The after its inventor, Seth Breidbart, named Breidbart index is the most significant Cancel Index on Usenet.

With a Cancel - index the spread intensity is determined essentially the same article. Exceeds the index of a limit, is referred to the article in question as spam. You may then be removed by rogue cancel.

Cancel Index

  • Crossposting is sending an article into several groups.
  • Multiposting is the repeated sending of the same content.

The basic idea of the Breidbart Index is to these methods must be evaluated differently. For one, less data needs to be transmitted and stored in cross posts. On the other hand, excessive cross posts (ECP ), a plausible rookie mistakes during excessive multi Posts (EMP ) suggests deliberate use of special software.

The decisive factor is the acquisition of various items as consubstantial ( in the original English: substantively identical ). This includes among other things:

  • Byte -for-byte identical messages;
  • To be identical messages, which differ only in minor adaptations to the group;
  • Messages that advertise the same product, service or Web site;
  • Messages that consist of the same signature ( and nothing else);
  • Messages that differ only in the quoted text.

Breidbart Index ( BI)

The BI a lot of articles is the sum of the square roots of n, where n is the number of newsgroups to which each item was posted. The evaluation would a series of m consubstantial articles within a period of 45 days. That is, posts older than 45 days are not included as standard.

Two postings contain the same text. Once as a cross post in 9 groups, once as a cross post in the 16th

Version 2 of the Breidbart Index ( BI2 )

The BI2 is defined as the sum of the square roots of n plus the sum of n, is divided by two. The BI2 is more aggressive than the BI. A cross post in 35 groups sufficient to allow a single message transgresses the limit of 20.

Two postings contain the same text. Once as a cross post in 9 groups, once as a cross post in the 16th

Skirvin - Breidbart Index ( SBI, BI3 )

The SBI is calculated as the BI2, but sums the number of groups in Followup -to: (if available) instead of the number of groups in Newsgroups:. This is setting a followup -to: rewarded.

Two postings contain the same text. Once as a cross post in 9 groups, once as a cross post in 16 with four groups in Followup -to:

BI7 and BI30

In the Usenet hierarchy de. * The Breidbart index is used with a time of 7 days instead of 45 return, the abbreviation has naturalized BI7.

Hamster.de In the hierarchy. * The Breidbart Index applies to a time window of 30 days instead of 45 return, the abbreviation BI30 has naturalized.

Is defined in the FAQ of the group at.usenet.cancel -reports. In the election call ( CFV ) and the FAQ only the name Cancel Index is used. Unofficial abbreviations are CI and ACI.

The ACI of an individual postings is calculated as 3 plus the number of groups to which this posting was sent. The index of multiple postings is the sum of the indices of the individual postings.

Limits

  • According to RFC 1036, an article may only by the author or the administrator of the server on which the article was fed to Usenet, be canceled.
  • According to the Spam Thresholds FAQ applies throughout Usenet Breidbart an index of 20, ie Series of articles that are above this value may be removed by anyone by rogue cancel.
  • In some hierarchies alternative (higher ) limits were determined by a vote.
  • Free in the hierarchy. * All kinds of Cancel is prohibited.

In fact, a cancel message is automatically analyzable by a software request to delete a particular item. Operators of news servers may freely decide how they implement the contradictory policies.
