Location

The width of the mountain is located in the transition zone between the Zittau Mountains and the Lusatian mountains between the towns Hainewalde, Grossschönau and Bert village.

Geology

The width of the mountain is a Phonolithkuppe on a base of basalt. It originated during the Tertiary, as a large tectonic and volcanic activity in the area ruled.

History

The width of the mountain has been known for many centuries by a series of the word; the saga of the " Querxen the width Mountain", a kind of dwarves who live in the mountain, " The Wild Hunter in the width Mountains" and " The dragon on the width of the Mountains". The mountain of 1619 was also referred to as a "dwarf mountain" in the church book of Bert village.

1467 the Hussites were on Breiteberg inflicted great losses when they tried to pull with rich booty to Bohemia. They were here attacked by hidden Zittau, which killed 150 Hussites.

Early as 1880, a wooden lookout tower and Johann Franz Vorknecht on the summit opened a cottage as a summer restaurant. She is one of the oldest mountain chalets around. At the end of the 19th century two memorial stones were erected on the mountain by the width Bert village grove Ewalder Mountain Club. one in 1884 in honor of the researcher and pastor Karl Wilhelm Dornik from Hainewalde.
