Brent Cross

Brent Cross (also known as Brent X) was the first shopping center of its kind in the UK. It is located in the London Borough of Barnet and is named after Brent, a tributary of the River Thames.

History

The Brent Cross was opened in 1976 and was in his time the first major shopping center in the UK. They wanted to test the acceptance by the population. In its structure, it had the form of I. Later adaptations, which started in 1995, it finally got the shape of a T. Though it is small in comparison to modern shopping malls, there are always buyers.

But since it was built in a metropolitan area, it can not be extended. However, there are efforts since early 2005 adjacent office building in favor of an extension of the Brent Cross demolish. On 1 January 2002 smoking was prohibited in the building.

Transport links

The nearest London Underground station is the Brent Cross tube station, which was known before the opening of the Brent Cross Brent only. The Northern line goes this route. From there it is about 10 minutes from Brent Cross. The same route but it is also from the station Hendon Central.
