Brian G. W. Manning

Brian George William Manning ( born May 14, 1926 in Birmingham, † 10 November 2011) was a British amateur astronomer and asteroid explorer.

He began his working life as a draftsman and later moved as a measurement technology specialist at the University of Birmingham. In the late 1950s he constructed in a workshop interference- controlled measuring device by which it was possible to measure diffraction grating up to a size of six square inches.

In the period 1989 to 1997, he discovered to his private Stakenbridge Observatory (IAU code 494 ) a total of 19 asteroids.

In 1990 he was awarded the HE Dall price of the British Astronomical Association.
