Brickendon and Woolmers Estates

The Brickendon and Woolmers Estates ( German: Brickendon and Woolmers - lands ) is located in the north of Tasmania, Australia, at Longford, about 20 kilometers from Launceston.

The Brickendon and Woolmers Estates are entered together since 23 November 2007 the Australian National Heritage List in Australia since August 2010 and a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site. They are an example of the eleven listed convict sites in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Australian Convict Sites. The two ensembles were for six generations from 1817 to the property of the Archer family, which became extinct in 1994. The two properties are intersected by the meandering Macquarie River and seven miles apart.

The listed land and buildings represent an example of the British colonial policy in Australia for transfer of labor of convicts to private landowners for construction and farm work in the early 18th century, only rewarded by food and clothing.

The building complexes in the Georgian architectural style consist of residential and farm buildings, workshops, stables and rose gardens. They remained virtually unchanged to this day. This also applies to the furniture contained therein.
