Brigadier general

The Brigadier (English Brigadier general) referred to a number of armed forces an officer who is the lowest rank of general or one-star general and is rated in order of precedence according to NATO Rank Code with OF- 6.

The rank is also not to be confused with the Brigadier, which is usually rated between OF- 5 and OF -6. Differing classifications example, there is the Swiss army and the Austrian army, where the Brigadier is equivalent to the one-star General OF- 6.

In the NATO countries of brigadier general is usually found at the management level as a commander of a brigade.

In the Russian armed forces, there was this rank designation, however, at any time. Here, the lowest rank of general (OF -6 ) is the major general.

Germany

Brigadier General ( Abbr: BrigGen / in lists: BG), General Practitioner ( Abbr: eye specialist / in lists: GA ) and General pharmacist (abbr.: Genap / in lists: CAP) component of the military forces and organizational areas of the Bundeswehr (except the Germans Marine ) members of the generals. They are always professional soldiers. On the shoulder flap is a golden star in golden oak bow.

The rank was 1955/1956 introduced in the Armed Forces to achieve a standardization of the General ranks within NATO, and thus corresponded to the lowest rank of general rank formerly designated as a major general in Germany. Like all general ranks of brigadier general is not addressed by his rank but with Mr. or Mrs. General General.

The rank was from 1951 to 1976 in the Federal (now Federal Police ) are common.

Brigadiers are used primarily as Deputy Division Commanders and (besides rare Supreme Grade B3) as commanders of brigades and schools.

This lowest rank of general is above the Colonel ( Oberst ) and under the Général de division.
