Bright Turkey Party

The Aydınlık Türkiye Partisi, ATP, ( German: Party of the Enlightened Turkey) was a political party in Turkey.

History

Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş is the son of the founder and former chairman of the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP ) Alparslan Türkeş. As Alparslan Türkeş died on 4 April 1997, there was an intra-party power struggle. There were two camps that wanted a his son Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş as new Chairman, the other the former Secretary General of the MHP Devlet Bahceli. Finally Devlet Bahceli was elected at an extraordinary party congress as the new Chairman. Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş resigned from the MHP and founded on 27 February 1997, the ATP.

Election results

On 22 July 2007, early elections were held for the 23rd Grand National Assembly of Turkey. 100,982 voters (0.29 percent) gave their vote to the ATP.

In the same year the founder of the ATP Yıldırım Tuğrul Türkeş ran for MHP deputy and was elected to Parliament.

Resolution

The party was dissolved in 2010 and joined the MHP.
