Goodradigbee River in the Brindabella Valley

The Brindabella Ranges are a mountain range in New South Wales in Australia. They are located about 40 km southwest of the capital Canberra and form part of the Snowy Mountains. Through the Brindabella Valley in the middle of the mountains flows the Goodradigbee River.

The name Brindabella supposed to mean in the language of the local Aborigines " two kangaroo rats ". However, another source indicates that " Brindy brindy " is a local term for over rocks running water. The addition of "bella " was added by the Europeans, the same meaning as "bella vista" ( "beautiful view ").

Before European settlement, the mountain range was inhabited by the tribes of Ngunawal, Walgalu and Djimantan. European sheep farmers here could be the first time in the 1830s down, the first land purchase was made in 1849., Gold was found in 1860, but removed only from the mid-1880s. The Brindabella Gold Mine Company was founded in 1887 and was active until 1910. Today, the area is used for agriculture.

The Australian writer Miles Franklin grew up in the Brindabella Valley and wrote the autobiographical book " Childhood at Brindabella ", which tells of her childhood in the valley.
