British Canoe Union

The British Canoe Union ( BCU) is the national governing body of canoeing in the UK.

The BCU develops standards for certified training programs and accredited instructors of these training programs. It also organizes canoeing performance sport in the UK and is sending teams to international competitions.

The BCU is a member of the International Canoe Federation and the European Canoe Association.

The office of the BCU is located in Pierrepont Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

President of the BCU is Albert Woods, who at the same time also heads the European Union.

History

The BCU is the oldest canoe club in the world. The initial foundation of the BCU took place in 1887, she held for about 30 years. Only in 1933 the association was revived.

In March 1936, representatives formed the canoe Department of Camping Club, the Clyde Canoe Club, the Manchester Canoe Club and the Royal Canoe Club, the BCU.
