British Ecological Society

The British Ecological Society ( BES) is the scientific Ecological Society of the United Kingdom. Office of the Company is the Charles Darwin House.

The company was founded in 1913 and has about 4000 members worldwide, 14 % of whom are students. Membership is open to any interested person outside the United Kingdom, so that 38 % of the members live in 92 other states. Since its inception The BES publishes the internationally recognized journal Journal of Ecology. Over time, trade journals such as the Journal of Animal Ecology (1932 ), Journal of Applied Ecology (1964 ), Functional Ecology (1987 ) and Methodius came in Ecology and Evolution (2010) to do so.
