BRM P180

The BRM P180, also known as B.R.M. P180 designated, was a Formula 1 racing car, built in 1972 by the British Formula 1 team British Racing Motors.

The BRM P180 was the last designed by Tony Southgate racing cars for the British Formula 1 team and a complete failure. The car had a similar lower monocoque like the P160, with a cooling system in the rear, along the transmission. Southgate focused so the weight savings, a man could easily lift the car at the front alone, that the driving behavior of the car suffered massively. Despite intensive test work the car could never be done properly competitive. The team therefore drew on the P160E to deny the most Grand Prix races of the year. The P180 had his debut at the Spanish Grand Prix in 1972 and came in five World Cup races used to achieve without points. In the fall of 1972, he ran unsuccessfully for a national formula 1 race without status in the UK and was then permanently withdrawn.
