Location in urban space

The Brno station was in 1838 in front of the former, in 1835 only newly built " Ferdinand gates ", ie applied immediately before the then outskirts of the city between moat and ramparts. He is now almost exactly at the same point, southeast of the city center, the reception building located further today only minimal northeast. South-east it borders on the district Trnitá. The shunting and goods facilities are located outside the train station today to more distant places, eg Brno dolní nádrazí. Outside the station, most tram lines with a stop, not far away from the former facilities of the station of StEG is now a central stop on the trolley bus, bus and street railway lines. An underpass, starting from the Josefská, under the station forecourt ( Nádražní ) and the train running, then connects further over bridges and through shopping malls, the city center with the railway and main bus station Zvonařka.

History

The Brno station learned throughout history by steadily rising volume of traffic several extensions and conversions.

Station 1838-1849

Brno to Vienna and Budapest was the third major city of the Austria -Hungarian Empire and the first in the Czech lands with railway connection, in this case to the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway. She led from Vienna via Lundenburg to Brno and in the other branch of Lundenburg continue to Krakow and Bochnia. The first station to Brno was created in 1838 in front of the former, in 1835 only newly built " Ferdinand gates " as a railhead. Usually he is just North Station / Severní nádrazí called correctly: Station of the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway / Nádrazí Severní Railways císaře Ferdinandovy. Engineer Carl von Ghega had to overcome both the Svratka and the Wiener Straße. After that, in the bow and with a slope built, 637 m long viaduct with 72 arches joined to the train station. Already on 11 November 1838 that it saw there the locomotive " Moravia ", on 15 December 1838, the route Brno Raigern, opens up the whole stretch under strong participation of the population on July 7, 1838. The train needed for 144 km from Vienna to Brno 4 1/4 hours.

Station 1849-1869

The second station was the city in 1849 in connection with the construction of the Imperial Northern State Railway of Brno Czech Trübau (Česká Třebová ) and on to Prague. This station is the state railway / Státní called nádrazí. Both the station premises were close to one another and are connected by tracks together so that instead of only 10 years ago built reception building of the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway, a new symmetrical reception building was built as a community station with one wing for each railway company. The transformation was carried out by a railway engineer Anton youth. In addition to the extension of the south of the EC -lying installations in the KFNB as roundhouse, magazines, workshops and goods facilities were south of the reception building, which re-created the StEG across the street Nádražní / Křenová that had to be bridged to.

The third station was 1856 Rossitzer station ( now Brno dolní nádrazí ) of the Brno - Rossitzer railroad at the end of the mandrel Roessel Street ( ulica Trnitá ) in the district Trnitá it. There, the route via Strelitz Střelice ( Zastávka today with its coal mines ) began after God's blessing.

Station 1869-1883

1869, the route Brno- Přerov the KFNB was opened, which also einmündete from the south, crossing the Rossitzer route, along with the distance from Lund castle in the station of KFNB.

Constant competition and quarrels between the KFNB and StEG marked this and subsequent years, which impacted on the rail projects, and the route and the Brno railway stations.

As 1870 opened the route of Strelitz Střelice after Grusbach ( Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou ) and thus the connection to the Eastern Railway by kk Northern State Railways was established, the route went still in Upper Gerspitz ( Horni Heršpice on the Emperor Ferdinand Northern Railway ) across newly built for Rossitzer station and through this a, high embankment out connection along the ulice Trnitá the state railway station of the Northern State Railway. 1869/70 the station facilities will therefore expanded and rebuilt, this time by the architect Josef Arnold again. The Rossitzer station is converted into a goods station in the same year.

1877 Brno Rossitzer railroad was completely taken over by the StEG, after these leased for use since 1870.

Station 1883-1902

1883-1888 the route to the Vlarapass (Brno- Vlárský_průsmyk ) was built by the StEG. It also provides a compound curve of this route has been created via Zidenice to the track to Česká Třebová. Likewise, in 1886 the extension of the railway Rossitzer of God's blessing ( Zastávka ) to Jihlava ( Jihlava ) with connection to the Austrian Northwestern Railway was built as part of a " Bohemian-Moravian Transversal ". Thus, the distance from Jihlava on Strelitz performs the Rossitzer station to the state railway station. 1885 opened the StEG the route Brno Tischnowitz. The station facilities to be extended again in these years, simultaneously receive both parts of the station 's most modern goods clearance.

Station 1902 - today

1902-1905 the main station was rebuilt again. Since then, begin and end all trains in this station since 1904, the connection from the web to Rossitzer KFNB was built. Therefore, the station now called " Central Station " or simply train station Brno. Also in 1905 was the continuous commissioning of the line Brno - Tischnowitz - German Brod. 1906 KFNB was nationalized in the kkStB 1907 took over the latter also running, so now finally lay the management in Brno in one hand.

1927 a large compound curve ( Komárovská Spojka ) from Central Station to line Brno - Wlarapass was built. This simplified the management eastwards considerably.

1945, 1953 and 1962, further changes and improvements to the routes were made in and around Brno. In 1970, the direct connection of the Rossitzer station was demolished for the state railway of 1870 and gradually built over. However, a small part was retained in the construction of the shopping center Vankovka.

Due to the difficult and complex history and the resulting unfavorable for further extensions of the current station location, a project has been discussed for several years that the station intends to move a few hundred meters to the south. A referendum could the plans so far, also due to immense costs prevent. Opponents argue that the new location was missing transport links and the way to the city center is much further than before. There are several alternative proposals, but so far brought no agreement. Therefore, in 2009 a suspension of negotiations on two years it was decided. Financial need and budget constraints leave open the further output of the planning.

Description

Today's Art Nouveau building designed by architect Josef Nebehosteny from the years 1902 to 1905 consists of the main hall with two side wings. It was built using the previous construction by 1849.
