Broby, Sweden

Broby is a place ( tätort ) in the province of Skåne County and the historical province Scania. The place is also chief town of Östra Göinge and is located on the west bank of the River Helge å.

Since the Middle Ages, there is a church in Broby. Today, however, Östra Broby kyrka was essentially only in 1932.

Since 1773 will be held on the square of the village twice a year a big market. This design was processed by Selma Lagerlöf in her novel Gösta Berling.

By Broby led the meantime disused railway line Hästveda - Karpalund. The section between Broby and Glimminge can be driven with rentable in Broby Handcars today.

Personalities

Broby was born in the Swedish politician Hans Johnsson ( 1840-1912 ).
