Bromous acid

Bromine ( III) acid

Not purely representable

Only stable in aqueous solution

Template: Infobox chemical / molecular formula search available

As Bromige acid, the oxygen acid of the bromine in the oxidation state 3 is called. It has the molecular formula HBrO2. Its salts are the bromites. In free form, the acid is not stable and acts only as an intermediate product of the oxidation of hypobromous acid to bromoacid on. The oxidation can be carried out classical chemical or electrochemical ( anodic).

The disproportionation of hypobromous acid is initially supplied by the Bromige acid, which in turn disproportionates to hypobromous acid and hydrobromic acid.

It is caused by the addition of hydrobromic acid and hydrobromic synproportionation.
