Bronius Kutavičius

Bronius Kutavičius (* September 13 1932 in Molainiai, Rajongemeinde Panevėžys) is a Lithuanian composer and professor.

Career

Kutavičius studied from 1959 to 1964 composition at the Lithuanian Staatskonversatorium to Vilnius. In this decade, he also began methods of serial music, aleatoric music, collage techniques, sonorism and new forms of notation to be included in his compositions and playing with parameters such as timbre or surround sound. In 1967 he joined the Lithuanian Composers' Union. Since the 1970s finds its way into the minimalism Kutavičius ' works, as well as early forms of the Lithuanian music history, with its beginnings he has been there in detail. From this period the works pantheistic come Oratorio ( 1970), The Last Pagan Rites (1978) and From the stones of the Yotvingians (1983 ), which made the composer known and can be considered as representative for his musical work.

From 1974 to 1989 he was a member of the Executive Council of the Lithuanian Composers' Union. 1982 Kutavičius was awarded the title " Honored Artist of the Lithuanian SSR ", 1984 and 1985, he was awarded the apple price ( lit. Obuolio premija ) and 1987 Yotvingians price. From the 1990s he addresses in his compositions and the musical culture of other countries such as Japan or Karelia. 1991-95 Kutavičius worked on one of his major works, the gates of Jerusalem, for in 1996 he was awarded the Lithuanian National Prize. In 1993 he became professor of composition at the Music Academy of Lithuania, 1999, he received the Order of the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas fourth class and the officer of Merit of the Republic of Poland, later also the price of the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture. In 2000 he wrote his opera Lokys to the libretto of Aušra Marija Sluckaitė - Jurašienė, based on the novel by Prosper Mérimée.
