Brookfield Place (New York City)

The World Financial Center (German: World Financial Center ), abbreviated WFC is designed by architect César Pelli building complex in New York City at the southern tip of Manhattan. It was built by the company Olympia and York 1982-1988 on an area, which was filled from the excavation of the rubble and later destroyed World Trade Center and Battery Park City.

The building complex of the WFC consists of four office towers up to 51 storeys, the center is a large conservatory. There was a transition between the WFC and the former World Trade Center.

The building complex was heavily damaged in the attacks of 11 September 2001, particularly the lower floors of Towers 2 and 3 and the intermediate, covered with glass conservatory. After extensive repair work, the building and the conservatory were reopened.

In WFC companies such as Merrill Lynch, American Express and others have their headquarters More is located in the WFC, the New York Mercantile Exchange, the heart of the world's oil trade.

Single building of the WFC

  • Tower 1 ( trapezoidal roof): completed in 1986, is 176 m high and has 40 floors. The floor area is 151,000 square meters.
  • Tower 2 ( hemispherical roof): completed in 1987, is 197 meters high and has 44 floors. The floor area is 231,000 square meters.
  • Tower 3 ( pyramidal roof ): completed in 1985, is 225 meters high and has 51 floors. The floor area is 111,000 square meters.
  • Tower 4 ( step-shaped roof): completed in 1986, is 152 meters high and has 34 floors. The floor area is 167,000 square meters.
  • The Winter Garden, completed in 1988, is a glass pavilion, between the towers 2 and 3, there are various shops and cafes. The floor area is 27,000 m².
