Brookton (Western Australia)

Brookton is a place in the Great Southern region of Western Australia. It is located 138 km south-east of Perth on the corner of Brookton and Great Southern Highway. The Great Southern Railway line through the town.

History

John Seabrook was the founder of the village. In 1846 he came into the region and acquired lands, on which he founded his possession Brookton House. Brookton was the only Europeans in the area until the Sandelholzfäller AW Robinson lands close purchased from his possession. Between the 1860s and the 1870s, several settlers came to the region.

1889, the Great Southern Railway was opened and became one of its first stops Brookton. The place was announced in 1895 as Seabrook. Because of the confusion with the homonymous town near York, he was renamed in 1899 in Brookton.

Around 1903, the place became economically, worked in the at that time a school, a hotel and some shops. The museum of the old police station reflects the early history of the city.

Twice a year is the Old Time Motor Show held in Brookton.

The place is a stop on the lines go the to Albany.
