Bruce Gilden

Bruce Gilden ( born October 16, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American documentary photographer. He was known especially for his work on the inhabitants of the city of New York. From street photographers guilds demarcates especially by his consistent use of flash and the small distance to his subject.

Work

Even with his first reportage Coney Iceland guilds showed his fascination of strange characters and peculiarities. He photographed on the beach at Coney Iceland especially the people who stood out from the usual crowd, overweight or obese people, as well as intimate moments of beach visitors.

His particular way of working is at hand to wait with camera and flash on a subject, then very quickly to approach close to the subject and this photograph with flash. By using the flash, the subject raises contrast against the background.

2007 documentary Misery Loves Company was: The Life and Death of Bruce Gilden published, dealing with the work and life of Bruce Gilden. His current reportage Detroit - A city in trouble dealing with the social plight of Detroit residents who are affected by the financial crisis.

Since 1998, Guild member of Magnum Photos, in 2002, he was one of the few full members.

Guilds works with several Leica M cameras with wide angle lenses and compact flash devices.
