Bruce Sterling

Bruce Sterling ( born April 14, 1954 in Brownsville, Texas) is an American science fiction writer.

Life

His first release was the 1977 novel Involution Ocean (Eng. " The dust Planet " (1984), and later " The dust Ocean "). He is considered the founder of the cyberpunk. Several times he was nominated for the Nebula Award and the Hugo Award, the latter he received in 1999. Since 2007 he lives in Turin, after he had lived for several years in Belgrade. He is married to his second wife, the Serbian writer and filmmaker Jasmina Tešanović.

Sterling was also known for his political involvement. In 1992 he published his first non-fiction book The Hacker Crackdown, subtitled law and disorder in the electronic frontier; in which he describes the hacking scene of the late 80s and crucial events, such as the impact of the U.S. Secret Service against credit card fraudsters, the raid on Steve Jackson Games, and the founding of the Electronic Frontier Foundation. This book was published free in electronic form on the Internet.

Sterling is also one of the masterminds behind the Viridian design movement ( " Cyber ​​Green ").
