The Bruxelles-Luxembourg/Brussel-Luxemburg railway station is a railway station in the Belgian capital Brussels in the commune of Ixelles / Elsene.

History

The station, built by the architect Gustave Saintenoy was opened on August 24, 1854 under the name Brussel - Leopoldswijk ( niedl. ) or Quartier- Léopold (French ). The former name comes from the former Belgian King Leopold I..

Conversion

By 14 January 2009, the entire station was completely rebuilt. The station and the surrounding area have been permanently altered by the construction of the European Parliament. The station was moved to down position under the European quarter, so that the trains pass through a tunnel to the station. Only the old station building at Luxembourg Boulevard still reminds of the old railway station.

Just 500 meters away is the metro station Trone / Troon, where the transit traffic to lines 2 and 6,. At the same station also hold ten bus lines, two of which have their end point. In the six tracks hold Euro - City, Intercity, Interregional trains as well as the Brussels subway.
