Water buffalo (Bubalus arnee )

The Asian buffalo (Bubalus ) are a genus of cattle, which are used in four modes via South and Southeast Asia. In historical times, their range ranged westward to Asia Minor and north to China, in the last ice age it enclosed and North Africa. Due to the Asian buffalo people were also brought to other continents.

Only the water buffalo (Bubalus arnee ) has a wide distribution and a high degree of recognition. The remaining species of Asian buffalo are confined to small islands.

The Tamarau occurs only on the Philippine island of Mindoro. The latter two species form the subgenus of Anoas ( Anoa ) and occasionally as a kind of summary. They are endemic to the Indonesian island of Sulawesi and the small neighboring island of Buton. In Europe during the Pleistocene also came before a sort of European water buffalo (Bubalus murrensis ).
