Geography

Geographical location

Book Mountain is located in the region Allgäu Allgäu in Lakeland. There it is located east of Adelegg. The western, abseitigen and only small districts Kreuzthal and Eschach valley are drained by the upper reaches of the Eschach. Northwest of the core community is the Kürnacher forest with the Ursersberg ( 1129 m above sea level. NN ), west of the Buchberger forest with the Eschacher pond and the nearby Hohenkapf ( 1122m) south of the Wirlinger forest. To the north of the center, almost directly between the mountain and book Wiggensbach is the blender.

Community structure

History

Even in ancient times the district was inhabited. The Burgus Ahegg is a small Roman military site, which served as late antique residential and watchtower for the control of a portion of the frontier along the Danube -Iller -Rhine- Limes ( DIR).

In the year 1275 we find the first known mention of the place " Buchiberg " as a parish in the liber decimationis. On March 17, 1460 there were between Swiss mercenaries and 1,300 soldiers of the prince-abbot of Kempten to battle the book mountain. 1485 was the place the market right book mountain was in front seat of a 1803 Upper and Lower Court and belonged to the prince pin Kempten since time immemorial.

Since Reichsdeputationshauptschluss and the secularization of 1803, the community belongs to Bavaria. Created in 1818 with the Bavarian municipality edict today's political community. After years of effort book mountain receives on 18 November 1929, the permission to be allowed to officially name a market town.

Incorporations

On January 1, 1963, the inclusion of parts of the community Rechtis ( Hochberg and Tobelssäge ) was performed. On April 1, 1971, incorporated the independent municipality Kreuzthal in the course of municipal reform.

Since 1821, the parish is assigned to the diocese of Augsburg.

Museum of Local History Book Mountain

At the Eschacher road next to the country inn Sommerau is the very small but very lovable Museum of the market town. In a voluntary and time-consuming work, the present museum was built in 1986-1993 by the home e Historical Society Book V. mountain from a small fall farmhouse. This house is not a typical Allgäu farmhouse and it was also built in 1924. But it was the only house that was ever in municipal ownership and for a purpose museum came into question.

Traffic

Isny- Bähnle

From 1909 to 1984 book mountain was on the railway line Kempten- Isny. Known as Isny Bähnle by the cult film "last Wallers Gang" (among others Directed by: Christian Wagner). The station is still standing at the present hiking and biking trail that is part of the Allgäu- cycle path.
