Buckie

Buckie (Gaelic: Bucaidh ) is a town in the Scottish region of Moray. Buckie was the largest town in the traditional county of Banffshire and is located on the Moray Firth, about 75 kilometers east of Inverness and north-west of Aberdeen. In 2001 Buckie recorded 8059 inhabitants.

The city part in the two districts Burn of Buckie and Nether Buckie ( Buckpool ). In 1877, John Gordon of Cluny was for £ 60,000 new port facilities ( Cluny Harbour ) construct. 1881 were employed in 1320 to 333 ships. 1913 Buckie had the largest fleet of steamers in Scotland. The port and the connected food industry is still of great importance in the city. The long history can be traced in a museum.

Buckie lies on the border of the major whiskey Speyside. Since 1871, the distillery Inchgower is near the city, now part of the international group Diageo.

The A98, which connects Fraserburgh to Fochabers, touches the city and connects it to the trunk road network. A connection to the railway network does not exist.
