Bud Held

Franklin " Bud " Held ( born October 25, 1927 in Los Angeles, California) is an American javelin thrower, who made a splash in the early 1950s.

Bud Held Special

Bud hero had been thinking along with his father and brother about how you could improve the flight characteristics of spears. The result was the so-called hero Bud Special, a new type of spear that an increased proportion of wood and a shortened from 37 to 17 cm steel tip having at unchanged placid focus and was hollow. Athletic career

Bud hero himself was only at the Pan American Games in 1955 in Mexico City, where he was victorious with 69.77 m, recorded an international success. At the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, however, he came up with 68,42 m only in 9th place, and qualifying for the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, he missed by about one inch.

In 1956 he scored with 82.30 m personal best, which led him to 4th place in the world leaderboard years.

Later life

After finishing his sports career Bud hero was a successful sporting goods dealer.

Even as a senior took Bud Held regular competitor:

  • In 1970, he threw 229'3 '' American record in the M40 age class.

Later he moved to jump and was there successfully:

  • On November 8, 1997 in Phoenix, he scored 1.52m in the high jump. This performance meant a world record in the M70 age class.
  • On August 3, 2003, he crossed in Mission Viejo with the rod 3.05 m and placed so held by his compatriot William Bell world record in the M75 age class a.
