Buddhism in Iceland

Buddhism in Iceland has a relatively young roots and is largely confined to the metropolitan area Höfuðborgarsvæðið. There are contacts with Buddhists in the United States, Finland and the UK. Currently, several groups with different traditions, including those that are worn by people of Asian origin active. In the predominantly Lutheran country, the total number of Buddhists is estimated at 500-700 people. Currently, activities of Theravada, Soto Zen, Jodo Shinshu, and New Kadampa Buddhist and thus all principal directions are known.

Ins talk of Buddhism also came through in October 2006 at the Reykjavik Film Festival documentary shown Vertu Eðlilegur (Act Normal). The film depicts the story of a young Englishman who becomes a Buddhist monk in Thailand Dhammanando, then looked a few years, the town of Thai in Iceland and finally stores the monk robes to marry a Russian woman.
