Buddy Deppenschmidt

Buddy Depp Schmidt ( born February 16, 1936 in Philadelphia ) is an American jazz drummer and percussionist, who helped develop the jazz samba style.

Life and work

Depp Schmidt studied drums among others, Joe Morello. Since 1960 he was a member of the trio of Charlie Byrd, with whom he was in 1961 Brazil tour; here he learned the Bossa Nova and know their rhythms and employed in the episode with Brazilian percussion instruments such as the Berimbao. He is best known for his work with Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd. The common entrance to the album Jazz Samba in 1962 marked the beginning of a wave of enthusiasm in North America for Latin American music.

Depp Schmidt since the 1970s, a teacher at the Newton School of Music in Bucks County. He leads a band called Jazz Renaissance, with which he was also on an international tour. He participated in three movie soundtracks and over 40 albums.
