Bukit Panjang LRT Line

The Bukit Panjang LRT is a fully automatic cable car system in Singapore, which is used for fine distribution around the Choa Chu Kang MRT Station ( north-south line). The completely above ground track is 7.8 km long, has 14 stations and is operated by SMRT.

Technology

The cable car is a system with rubber wheels and separate guide rails. A vehicle has two axles weighs 15.0 tonnes, is 12.8 meters long, 2.8 m wide and 3.4 m high. It is powered with 600 V DC and a top speed of 55 km / h A car has 22 seats and 83 standing passengers; it can be run in double traction. Route

The route consists of a linear portion between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Panjang, Bukit Panjang a loop - Segar - Bangkit - Bukit Panjang Bukit Panjang and a branch line - Ten Mile Junction. It operate three different courses:

  • Course A: Choa Chu Kang - Bukit Panjang - Segar - Bangkit - Bukit Panjang - Choa Chu Kang
  • Course B: Choa Chu Kang - Bukit Panjang - Bangkit - Segar - Bukit Panjang - Choa Chu Kang
  • Course C: Ten Mile Junction - Bukit Panjang - Segar - Bangkit - Bukit Panjang - Ten Mile Junction ( and back )

The course C operates mostly as a shuttle between Ten Mile Junction Bukit Panjang and.

History

The railway was put into operation on 6 November 1999.

In the initial phase, there was an ongoing delays due to a software error. In addition, there were two accidents:

  • In 2000, a train drove on to another. There were some minor injuries.
  • In 2002, a suspended wheel damaged the guide rail and the power supply, so that the operation for some time had to be interrupted completely.

These events and many interruptions as a three-time power failure on 12 May 2004 meant that this system greatly came under criticism, even more than the North East Line.
