Bulaq

Bulak (Arabic بولاق, Būlāq DMG ) is a neighborhood of the Egyptian capital, Cairo.

It is located on the east bank of the Nile, between the old Arab quarters and the river. Only in the course of the 19th century, the area was cultivated. There, the first Egyptian Museum, the Frenchman Auguste Mariette had set up were. There also was the first printing press in Egypt. Although close to the Nile provided the opportunity to easily deliver something with boats, on the other hand the quarter was also exposed to flooding.
