Bülk Lighthouse

The lighthouse Bülk is at the extreme western headland of the Kiel Fjord, on the territory of the municipality beach in Schleswig -Holstein. The Bülk Lighthouse is the oldest lighthouse on the Kiel Fjord. He serves as the leading light for the entrance to the fjord. With a red warning sector it marks the shoal Stollergrund. The lighthouse is a popular attraction.

History

On the Bülk Huk a pilot and light house was built by the Danes in 1807. The tower is six Argand lamps were with concave mirrors as reflectors that could be taken only after the war ended in 1815 in operation, however. 1843 destroyed a lightning strike the tower, as a replacement was created in 1844, a 16 m high tower with a rotating lens fire.

The construction of the present lighthouse was begun in 1862 by the Danes, but could be completed because of the German -Danish War until 1865 from Prussia. The tower was then white and had a red ribbon. As optics was in the lantern a cylindrical lens.

Shortly after commissioning handed the Bülk lighthouse is no longer sufficient to secure the seafaring in the Kiel Fjord. Therefore, in 1892 a lightship was also designed to input the Kiel Fjord.

1910, the belt light was replaced by a four -span headlights look. In the years to 1969, the lighthouse served as a leading light. From 1969 to 1970, the lighthouse was rebuilt at a target and fire again used a belt light. The tower is clad with asbestos cement sheets, received a black belt and was dismantled by almost 2 m.

Since this last conversion no more lighthouse keeper is employed at Bülk lighthouse. Previously lived there three lighthouse keeper who worked in shifts and their families lived on site.

Data

The Bülk lighthouse has a total height of 25.60 meters. The lower platform, which is open to visitors, is located in 22 m height. The belt lamp consists of a 120 V high-voltage halogen light bulb with 600 watts of power since 1999. The lamp is with the identification Blz. 3 s = 0.7 ( 2.3 ) s timed. The nominal range of the light is about 16 nautical miles for white light.

Presence

The lighthouse is still in full working order and is remotely controlled and monitored by the traffic control center of the Waterways and Shipping Office Lübeck Travemünde. In the lighthouse there is a picture gallery. In the vernacular of the tower is also called Hein Bülk. Since the beginning of 2013 a conspicuous radar system is installed on the top of the lighthouse, which has greatly changed the appearance of the tower.
