Bulletproof vest#Soviet armor

SN- 42 is a Russian body armor in the Second World War.

History

Several models of protective equipment in the Russian army, called SN -38, SN -39, SN -40, SN - 40A and SN -42 were built. The number stands for the development of each year. All versions have been tested, however, was only the SN -42 (Russian Стальной нагрудник, Stal'noi Nagrudnik, literally " Stahllatz " ) produced in series. ( The alternative Cyrillic abbreviation for the vest was marked with СН transcribed from Cyrillic are the S and N).

It consisted of two steel plates that protected the torso and groin. The plates were 2 mm thick and weighed 3.5 kg. This armor was made for the SHISBr ( pioneers ) and the Tankodesantniki (infantry, who was sitting on the tanks ).

In combat proved that projectiles from a MP -40 ( 9 mm caliber ) could not penetrate the armor at a distance of 100-125 m. She was so very useful in house fighting, like those in the Battle of Stalingrad.
