The Federal Highway 281 (abbreviated BAB 281) - Short form: Highway 281 (abbreviated as A 281 ) - is currently comprised of two sections seven km long motorway in Bremen. The A 281 is a Wesertunnel after its completion include a ring around the city north of Bremen Bremen ports and Gröpelingen. The entire route plan is, however, currently found only in sections.

The motorway will be about 20 km long and connect to two lanes in each direction, the A 27 from the motorway junction Bremen- industrial ports on Woltmershausen with the interchange Bremen / Arsten of A 1, which is indicated in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan as urgent or further need for completion.

Section 1: from the A27 to the industrial port (operating since 1995)

The first and shortest, two-kilometer long section in Burg- Grambke between the interchange Bremen- industrial ports and the road " by the industrial port " was completed in 1995.

Section 2: from the industrial port to FV (planned)

The longest and most extensive section is intended to lead to the Seehauser highway from the industrial port to the freight center ( LVN ). Therefore a new Weser tunnel is required. After political information according to the state of 2008, the construction of the second Weser tunnel should be privately funded and carry through assignments from the toll revenues. This approach is in accordance with the economic failures of the Warnow Tunnel in Rostock and the Travelodge Tunnel in Lübeck (both deficit ) is now questionable.

Section 3: from LVN to the airport ( in operation since 2008)

The section between the road and the Seehauser Neuenlander ring was taken on January 30, 2008 by Bremen Mayor Jens Böhrnsen and Parliamentary State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport Achim Grossmann in operation.

In the area of the airport dam the highway is out as a high road over a long cable-stayed bridge due to complex soil situation and intersections. There Bremen tram AG received as compensation for the provided storage space for building materials is now a covered parking space under the highway. At the same time the difficult foundation conditions to be overcome in the course of Neuenlander water solvent.

Particularly advantageous is the relocation of through traffic from the living area Neuenlander Road ( old route of the B6 ) against first planning due to substantial civil protests in an industrial area and on the former landfill site Warturm. Thus, the planning sins of the routing of the B6 between the railway Bremen- Oldenburg with demolition of their homes Neckarstraße and not repeated immediately adjacent remaining adjacent residential areas from the period around 1970 were.

Section 4: from the airport to the A1 (planned)

In this section, the Bremen Senate is committed to the construction of a tunnel under the airport, as an above-ground route just around the airport would be possible, which would be much longer and led past a residential area. In August 2013, the Senate was expected that it will take at least until the beginning of 2016 until you will agree on the course of the route with the federal government.
