Burgruine Federaun

The ruins Federaun is located southwest of Villach on a western spur of the Graschelitzen with steep rock faces.

Location

The former bambergische attachment is located directly above the historically important highway Villach- Tarvisio, which crosses the Gail beneath the castle rock. Fortress is also a bridge watchtower heard on a rock above the river, which was used to block the road and was converted into residential tower later. The documentary mentioned second tower at Federaun could not be located. The castle can be reached from the east via Warmbad / Graschelitzen by a partially rocky and steep path.

History

The oldest written mention of Federaun dates from the year 1311.
