Buriram ( Thai: บุรีรัมย์, such as: City of Joy ) is a city ( เทศบาล เมือง บุรีรัมย์ ) in the Thai province of Buriram. It is the capital of the district ( Amphoe ) Mueang Buriram and Buriram Province.

The city of Buriram has 27 862 inhabitants ( 2012).

Geography

The Buriram province is located in the northeast region of Thailand, known as Isan. Buriram is located on the southern edge of the Khorat Plateau, which is flooded in the hot season and extremely dry in the rainy season. The distance to the capital Bangkok is about 400 kilometers.

History

Buriram is an ancient settlement of the Khmer. Settlement activity can be demonstrated to the 7th century.

The seal of the city of Buriram shows an elephant holding the symbol of the Constitution in the form of a vessel. This shall constitute the Municipal Support for the democratic system.

The main economic activity in Buriram is agriculture and tourism. Buriram has several large hog farms.
