Burwell is the only incorporated city and the county seat ( county seat ) of Garfield County in the U.S. state of Nebraska.
History
Burwell was built in 1887, connected by the Burlington Railroad, which penetrated from Central City from the northwest to the rail network. The Burwell Women's Club in 1912 called its own library to life. From a fair, which was organized in Burwell since 1921, later " Nebraska 's Big Rodeo " developed. Burwell 1975 got the nickname Outdoor Rodeo Capital of Nebraska. The large cattle markets, for which the city is known have been held since the 1930s. With the commissioning of the Calamus Dam 1985 irrigation for 54,000 acres of land will be ensured.
Geography
Burwell is located in Garfield County, Nebraska at the State Highways 11 and 91, it is located on the North Loup River, about 7 km south of Calamus reservoirs.
Demography
According to census of 2000, Burwell has 1,130 residents, 512 residents are men and 618 are women.
