The Burwood Highway is a major transit route through the eastern suburbs of Melbourne in the southern Australian state of Victoria. It connects the CityLink and the Monash Freeway at Kooyong as a continuation of Toorak Road and Belgrave Gembrook Road in Belgrave.

Course

The road branches off in Kooyong from Citylink / Monash Freeway (M1 ) to the east as a continuation of Toorak Road. By Burwood Burwood East and it leads past the Knox City Shopping Centre, after Knoxfield. From there, it continues on its way to east -south-east along the southern boundary of the Dandenongs. Finally over Upper Ferntree Gully Belgrave it reaches and ends.

Next to east -south-east, the Belgrave Gembrook Road on the north side of the Cardinia reservoir sets along.

Importance, expanding state and numbering

The Burwood Highway is the most important road connecting the Dandenongs and the center of Melbourne.

From the Monash Freeway / Citylink from Warrigal Road to (S15 ) st the road widened to four lanes. Some of the tram uses the same route. From the Warrigal Road it runs six-lane carriageways, on the tram 75 goes to Vermont South. A few kilometers before the Burwood Highway Belgrave is again narrower.

From Toorak Road Burwood Highway of takes on the designation State Road 26 (S26 ), which he wears until shortly before Belgrave. Where the median strip is eliminated and the highway becomes narrower, the numbering changes to C412. After Belgrave Belgrave Gembrook Road continues this numbering.
