The Business and Information Technology School ( BiTS ) is a nationally accredited private college with its headquarters in Iserlohn and other locations in Berlin and Hamburg. The BiTS was founded in 2000 by Dietrich Walther, who was also its president until November 30, 2010. Carrier is the BiTS Business and Information Technology School GmbH, which since the beginning of 2010 the property of Laureate Education, Inc.

History

The Business and Information Technology School opened in the winter semester 2000/2001 and teaching started with 25 students in business administration. Founded as the private University of Applied Sciences of Dietrich Walther, first investors were the Gold-Zack Gontard & metal works and the Bank. The lectures were in close proximity to the present campus Iserlohn in the premises of today's Hotel Campus Garden instead. A year later, the lecture rooms were eventually moved to the present building. At the same time, the program was expanded to include courses media management and business computer science.

In the winter semester 2003/2004 started with Business Psychology of the first bachelor's degree program, bringing the BiTS with the conversion of the study programs began in the wake of the Bologna process. Previously, the former shareholders had sold their shares in Dietrich Walther, who thus became the sole owner of the college.

2008, the International Education Group, Laureate Education Inc. acquired via its German subsidiary Laureate Germany Holding GmbH a 76- percent stake in the BiTS. Departments and programs

The BiTS offers eight undergraduate and six master's degree programs in four departments. In the undergraduate programs, the fundamentals of each topic area are taught in the first three semesters before a stay abroad is planned in the fourth semester. In the fifth and sixth semester, in-depth studies in the main subjects students can choose itself follows. In addition, in each degree program courses in the areas of soft skills are mandatory. The bachelor degree program includes three semesters of Business English.

The Department " Business Psychology " is the study course Business Psychology assigned in which students deal with economic psychology and economics. Business Psychology was introduced in 2004 as the first undergraduate program at BiTS. In the winter semester 2010 based thereon, the same Master's program was created. It is divided into four areas of competence, to provide the skills for leadership and design tasks in Human Resource Management.

The department of " International Service Industries" are connected two bachelor's and a master's program. The study of International Management for Service Industries includes foundations in international management, business administration and economics. Focus is in the areas of tourism, hospitality and health as well as event management. The bachelor's degree program Sport & Event Management provides knowledge of the sport and event management, business and economics as well as the EDP. Before studying the can choose the specializations Soccer Management, Equine Management and Fashion Management, which extend over the entire six- semester students of this specialty. Building on the bachelor program Sport & Event Management offers the BiTS to the master 's degree program International Sport & Event Management with the competence areas of International Sport Management, International Event Management, International Marketing Management, and International & Vocational Training.

To the Department of " economy" includes three undergraduate and three master's degree programs in the field of business administration. The contents of the course Business and Management Studies come close to a classic business degree. The study of Business and Technology Management includes not only the economics and the engineering sciences and engineering IT. The course Green Business Management provides knowledge in environmental management. The Master's program is intended to provide corporate management expertise to corporate governance. Through an individual module selection from the fields of business management, corporate communications and business psychology, students can specialize in certain orientations. The Master's Program Finance and Management includes the competence mediation in the areas of Financial Management, Accounting, Taxation and controlling. The degree program marketing management involves the areas of expertise Corporate Management and Marketing, Marketing Management, Marketing and International Policy & Vocational Training.

The department of " Media & Communications " includes two bachelor's and master's degree programs. In the affiliated undergraduate program Communication & Media Management skills needed in the field of media management while studying Journalism & Business Communication for Corporate Communications and Public Relations connects with journalism. The Master's program PR & Corporate Communication follows on from the undergraduate programs and puts the emphasis on public relations.

Campus

The campus of BiTS in Iserlohn was until the 1990s the site of a British Military Hospital. The site is located directly on Seilersee in the eastern part of the city of Iserlohn and thus near the A 46 The lecture rooms are located in the main building of the campus, which is adjacent to the neighboring boarding school at Seilersee. In the former barracks building B 6 sits the organization team of the Campus Symposium and other affiliated institutes of the university. The building B 7 was converted to a Uni- disco, in which a band rehearsal room is located. Compared to the B 7 is the refectory and a dormitory with about 80 apartments. In a contest the magazine Unicum, the campus was voted third most beautiful university grounds in Germany.

Since the winter semester 2012/2013 the BiTS also offers some of your courses on the campus of the newly established BiTS in Berlin. The BiTS Campus in Berlin, together with the sister university, the BTK College of Design in Bern Strasse 24-25, accommodated.

In the winter semester 2013/2014, an additional location in Hamburg has been added. Here for selected courses in the premises of the Hamburg htk vocational school for graphic design in Alsterterrasse 1 are offered.

Learning and Teaching

Concept

All courses at the Business and Information Technology School are economically oriented and combine it with special emphasis. From university especially the practical nature of the course content and the faculty as well as the international focus of the study programs will be highlighted.

The target group comprises BiTS (specialized) high school seniors who want to act as leaders in business after their training:

This concept is " The entrepreneurial university", which is also part of the BiTS logos underscored by the slogan. Research

With GAIA is since 2009 an Institute for Environmental Management at the BiTS, whose task is mainly engaged in research in this area. The Institute of Event Management focuses its activities on event - controlling, the scientific evaluation of events. The Institute for Private Customers concerned primarily with the behavior of private clients in estate planning. In addition to advising wealthy private clients, the institute also offers advice. As an organ of the Society for controlling of Thomas Reichmann, the Institute for Management & Control was founded at BiTS in October 2003. The performance of the Institute include research, assistance with academic work and a management consultancy in this field.

The Institute was founded in 2005 for knowledge management is concerned with the research and consulting company in the field of knowledge management. Switching techniques in economics subjects studied, the Institute for economic education and knowledge transfer, which campaigns for a theming economic foundations already in kindergarten and primary school. The Institute for Cooperation Strategies, founded in March 2007, linking the research with the implementation of the insights regarding consulting and cooperation opportunities in business enterprises. The focus of the Institute are in the business areas of organization and human resources. Research, policy advice and seminars are the business of the Research Institute for Regional and cluster management, which would examine and improve the competitiveness of regions.

Student activities and ministries

A variety of student initiatives have formed at the Business and Information Technology School, which received attention also on the university also. The most prominent initiative is the Campus Symposium, an international economic summit, which was held for the first time in 2005. Students of all disciplines organized the first event to which, among other former German President Richard von Weizsäcker came to the university. The Rubicon Contest is an annual international competition be registered for business students to participate in the more than 20 teams each.
