Butembo

Province

Butembo is a city in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is located in the province of North Kivu in the east of the country and to Goma, the second largest city of the province. East of Butembo is the Virunga National Park. By one estimate, lived 2012 217.625 people in the city.

Until the civil war in eastern Congo Butembo was an important center of the region, with a large market center as well as a hospital and an airport. In the city is located, since 1989, the Université Catholique du Graben.
