Buthiers, Haute-Saône

Buthiers is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Buthiers situated at an altitude of 225 m above sea level, 9 km south-southwest of Rioz and about 12 km north of the city of Besançon (air line). The village extends to the south of the department on the northern edge of the valley of Ognon, near the mouth of Buthiers, north of the ridge of the Fort de la Dame Blanche ( Grande Cote ).

The area of ​​5.69 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the middle Ognon Valley. The southern boundary runs mostly along the Ognon. This flows here with several meanders through an alluvial plain, which has a width of about two kilometers and is on average 220 ​​m. In Buthiers flows from the northwest to the same stream Buthiers, which is west of the village to a pond ( nature reserve) dammed. From the river, the municipality's area extends north across the valley into the open valley of Buthiers. This trough is flanked on both sides by wooded hills, which consist of an alternation of calcareous and sandy- marly layers of the upper Jurassic period. With 310 meters, the highest elevation of Buthiers is achieved in the Forêt de Sorans.

History

In the Middle Ages Buthiers belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The noble family Buthiers is first mentioned in writing in 1140. You were responsible for local government, which passed in 1494 to the Lords of Scey. Together with the Franche -Comté came Buthiers with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. In 1805, the previously independent Avouay was (1800: 54 inhabitants ) incorporated to Buthiers. Today Buthiers is a member of the 28 localities comprehensive community association Communauté de communes du Pays Riolais.

Attractions

The village church of Buthiers was rebuilt in the 18th century. Mostly from the 17th century comes the present building of the castle, which has a medieval keep ( 15th century ) and two square towers has. It stands in a large park with an orangery and Chinese pavilion.
