Büttenpapierfabrik Gmund GmbH & Co. KG is a paper manufacturer headquartered in Gmund am Tegernsee and currently employs more than 100 employees.

She is active in the manufacture of paper in the fields of fine paper, uncoated paper and finished paper products. With an export rate of 75% customers are supplied in approximately 80 countries.

History

Already under the direction of company founder Johann Nepomuk Haas handmade papers were produced. The Kohler family who run the company since 1995 alone, has continued this approach and the products adapted to the present needs.

Johann Nepomuk Haas founded in 1829, the paper mill in Mangfalltal. He had the license to collect rags that were needed in order to produce paper may. ( By 1850, paper was manufactured in Europe exclusively from rags ). 1854, the factory was taken over by Gregor Fichtner and expanded to approximately 40 employees. The production was dedicated under his direction on handmade fine papers. During this time Gmund was purveyor to the Bavarian royal court to Munich. After the great fire in 1880 Gregor Fichtner built the factory again and installed in 1886, the first paper machine. Today it is still in full use and thus one of the oldest still -running machines in Europe. In 1895 the factory went into the possession of Romuald Brunner.

The Munich plasterer Georg Stahl, brother of the last owner, acquired the "machine paper mill and paper mill hand G. Fichtner successor " in 1903 as part of a bankruptcy estate. In order to lead them back to profitability, he teamed up with the experienced in the paper industry merchants Ludwig Kohler and Carl pan mountain. Together they founded in 1904 the "Machine and Büttenpapierfabrik Gmund GmbH", directed by Kohler and pan mountain as managing directors.
