Byron Diman

Byron Diman (* August 5, 1795 in Bristol, Rhode Iceland, † August 1, 1865 ) was an American politician and 1846-1847 Governor of the State of Rhode Iceland.

Career

Byron Diman worked from the age of 16 for over 20 years at a private company. He then joined, among others, in the whaling business. In the militia of Rhode Iceland, he brought it over the years to brigadier general. Politically Diman was a member of the Whig party. As the candidate he was for many years a deputy in the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland. Between 1840 and 1842, and from 1843 to 1846 he was vice- governor of his state. In 1846 he was elected by the Legislature as the new governor. This decision became necessary after at the regular elections no candidate reached the required absolute majority. Between 6 May 1846 and May 4, 1847, he was thus able to complete a term as governor. This time was in Rhode Iceland without incident. However, this state had its contribution to the concurrent Mexican-American War afford. Governor Diman renounced in 1847 on a bid again. In the following years he spent three years in the Senate of Rhode Iceland and was in the 1850s one of the founders of the Republican Party in Bristol.
