C. A. Bottolfsen

Clarence Alfred Bottolfsen ( born October 10, 1891 in Superior, Wisconsin, † July 19, 1964 in Boise, Idaho ) was an American politician and between 1939 and 1945 twice governor of the state of Idaho.

Early years and political rise

In 1902, CA Bottolfsen moved with his family to Fessenden, North Dakota, where he attended the public schools. Then he took a few courses at the National Business College in Minnesota, before he embarked on a career in the newspaper industry. He moved to Arco, where he was employed by the newspaper " Arco Advertiser " as a manager. In 1912 he acquired the sheet. During the First World War he was a soldier of the U.S. Army; yet he did not come to the front in Europe.

Bottolfsen was a member of the Republican Party. Between 1921 and 1931 he was with two interruptions deputy in the House of Representatives from Idaho. In 1927 he was president of the house. Between 1936 and 1938 Bottolfsen was chairman of his party in Idaho. In 1938 he was elected governor of his state.

Governor of Idaho

CA Bottolfsen took up his new post on January 2, 1939. In his first term, until January 5, 1941 the national debt was reduced. In the 1940 elections he was defeated Chase A. Clark.
