C. F. E. Horneman

Christian Fredrik Emil Horneman ( born December 17, 1840 in Copenhagen, † June 8, 1906 ibid ) was a Danish composer.

The son of composer Johan Ole Emil Horneman studied at the Leipzig Conservatory with Ignaz Moscheles, Ernst Friedrich Richter, Moritz Hauptmann and Julius Rietz. After his return to Denmark, he composed Divertimenti and operatic fantasies, orchestral pieces for performance in Tivoli, a string quartet and in 1863 the opera Aladdin.

With Gottfred Matthison -Hansen and others, he founded in 1865 the Konzerinstitut Euterpe, whose concerts he conducted. During a trip to Germany in 1867 he composed the overture heroique in Munich and led at a Gewandhaus concert in Leipzig at the Aladdin Overture.

In 1874 he founded with Otto Malling the Koncertforeningen whose concerts both alternately directed, in 1879 the Conservatory of Copenhagen, which bears his name today.
