C. J. Sapong

Charles Sapong (* December 27, 1988 in Manassas, Virginia) is an American football player.

Career

College

Sapong played college soccer at James Madison University. During this period he scored a total of 37 goals for the Dukes. He was four times awarded as the most valuable offensive player and in 2010 was the CAA Player of the Year.

He also played in 2009 for the Fredericksburg Gunners and 2010 for Reading United in the USL Premier Development League.

Sporting Kansas City

On 14 January 2011 Sapong was drafted in the MLS SuperDraft 2011 from Sporting Kansas City. On March 1, he signed a three-year contract with the MLS franchise. He made his debut almost three weeks later on Matchday 1 of the 2011 season against CD Chivas USA. In the same match he also scored his first league goal.

On November 8, 2011 Sapong was named the best young player with the MLS Rookie of the Year Award for the 2011 season.

National

On January 21, 2012, he received his first cap for the United States. The team won 1-0 against Venezuela.
